NFDI4Biodiversity

Biodiversity, ecology and environmental data from various sources, such as research, scientific IT service centres, natural history collections and civil society initiatives, hold immense potential for the conservation of biodiversity.

In NFDI4Biodiversity, around 50 partners from all these areas are therefore pooling their scientific and technical expertise to make this data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

The common goal is to develop a digital infrastructure – the so-called Research Data Commons – that enables users to access a comprehensive pool of biodiversity and environmental data, to submit data themselves, and to apply methods and tools for archiving, publishing, searching, and analyzing data that are suitable for everyday use and have been tested in practice.

These services are provided by the partner institutions. One example is the research data management services offered by the German Federation for Biological Data (GFBio).

In addition, the consortium sees itself as an expert forum for the safe and competent handling of data, which is to be made available for broad and responsible use.

NFDI4Biodiversity is part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).
